Modern Geometric Pool Design Focused on Outdoor Luxury

This project embodies an exceptional geometric swimming pool design harmoniously integrated with a vast covered outdoor living area, creating a perfect blend of indoor comfort and outdoor luxury. The design highlights sharp, contemporary lines, and functional forms, offering a unique ensemble that combines relaxation, entertainment, and lifestyle. At the heart of this design is a grand 45′ long negative edge pool. Its crystal-clear waters effortlessly blend with the horizon, creating a visually striking illusion of infinity.

The pool’s geometric design introduces a modern aesthetic that serves as a compelling contrast to the natural surroundings. A distinctive feature of this project is the oversized hot tub, which embraces a luxurious, resort-like vibe. Designed to comfortably accommodate multiple users, it boasts a unique perimeter overflow edge, enhancing the visual continuity between the hot tub and the pool. Its strategic placement guarantees a seamless visual connection with the entire expanse, fostering a sense of integration. Adjacent to the pool, a sun-drenched baja shelf, equipped with plush loungers, provides a dedicated space for sunbathing or a refreshing cool-down. Further expanding the social aspect of the design, an innovative underwater bar with in-pool stools transforms the pool into a venue perfectly suited for gatherings and family weekends.

The pool area is enveloped by an extensive deck that blends the warm texture of Travertine tiles with the resilience and eco-friendliness of Trex wood. This creative interplay of materials adds visual depth and a pleasing tactile contrast, enriching the overall sensory experience. The existing roof has been extended to accommodate a generous covered outdoor living area adjacent to the pool. This sheltered space, equipped with a fully-featured outdoor kitchen, offers ample room for lounging, dining, and socializing, establishing a resort-like ambiance. The seamless indoor-outdoor connection facilitates an interactive lifestyle, offering protection and comfort against varying weather conditions. The geometric swimming pool, integrated outdoor living area, and the sophisticated hot tub with a perimeter overflow edge, together represent a visionary approach to luxury, comfort, and social engagement. This project is not just a design statement, but a testament to sustainable and innovative design principles, creating an unrivaled aquatic and recreational experience for its users. How Much Does a Pool Cost?

How Much Does a Pool Cost?

The Cost of Putting in a Swimming Pool

The cost of building a pool can vary widely depending on several factors, including the type of pool, its size, location, materials used, additional features, and local labor and construction costs. According to to a recent report by PoolCorp, 61% of new swimming pools are gunite while fiberglass and vinyl are at 13% and 26% respectively. Cody Pools only builds inground concrete pools in the Greater Austin, San Antonio and Houston areas and we back them with our industry leading warranty. Below is a break down of each pool type.

  • Inground Concrete Pools (average base price – $70,000): These typically cost more because they are built with higher quality construction materials which makes far more durable over the long term. They are also far more customizable than other pools because of all the options available. The cost can range from $70,000 or more, depending on the size, shape, and features. In addition, concrete pools add more value to a homes resale value than other types of pools.
  • Fiberglass Pools (average base price – $60,000): These are pre-made pools that are installed in the ground. They can cost around $50,000 or more, depending on size and features. They come in limited shapes & sizes which hinder the ability to customize them to your wants and needs. They’re also not as durable over the long term as a gunite pool.
  • Vinyl Liner Pools (average base price – $50,000): These are constructed with a vinyl liner over a frame. While they’re upfront affordability may be attractive, consideration should really be given to potential ongoing costs down the road. For instance, it’s possible the liner may need replacement every 5-10 years, which adds to long-term costs. They are also susceptible to algae growth

It’s important to note that these are rough estimates and actual costs can vary significantly. Another consideration is the warranty offered by installers of these various pool types.

Additional factors that can affect how much a pool costs include:

  • Pool Size: Larger pools will generally cost more than smaller ones because of the increase in construction materials.
  • Pool Features: Features like waterfalls, diving boards, slides, lighting, heating systems, and automation will increase the cost.
  • Site Preparation: The condition of the site and any required excavation or grading can impact the cost.
  • Location: Local building codes, permits, and labor costs can vary widely from one area to another.
  • Landscaping: The area around the pool might need landscaping, which can add to the overall cost.
  • Maintenance Costs: Keep in mind that owning a pool involves ongoing maintenance costs, including chemicals, water, electricity for pumps and heaters, and potential repairs.
  • Contractor Choice: The pool builder’s reputation and experience can influence the cost. Cheaper options might not always deliver the best quality.

To get an accurate estimate for building your pool, it’s recommended to contact reputable local pool contractors for quotes. Featured Pool: July 2023

Featured Pool: July 2023

Our Featured Pool for July 2023 is this beautiful geometric pool design. This pool is highlighted by a baja shelf with perimeter overflow spa and lounge chairs, sunken fire pit area with swim up bar stools and glass safety fencing. Below you will find picutres and an overview from our designer.

What was it about the project that required an unusual level of craftsmanship?

There was no patio space off the back of the house when we started and the HOA would not allow us to keep the pool at the same elevation as the back door.  So, we have to design an outdoor patio off the back door with a kitchen area and drop the pool decking below that allowed the best use of the space we had available.

Describe the Aesthetic Appeal of this pool:

The beauty of this pool is the seamless integration of the floating steps that lead to the spa and the tanning shelve of both sides of the spa, along with the sunken fire pit area that shares a wall with the pool and the in pool stool seating.  All this is looked down upon from the elevated patio area and tied together with the glass handrails that create the required safety around the pool while not detracting from the beauty of it.

The main challenge of the design was giving the homeowner enough space on the upper patio while meeting the requirements of the height requirements of the HOA.The unusual story associated with this pool was the homeowners wanted everything at the same height as the upper patio and we had designed the entire pool at that evevation.  However, during the permitting process the HOA responded and said the upper patio could only come out off the house a certain distance and the pool could only be a certain max height out of grade.  So, we had to make a couple revisions and each time submit them to the HOA to be sure we could move forward with the build so as to be in compliance.

Adding a Baja Shelf Creates the Perfect “Ah-Ha” Feature to Your Pool Design

When its comes to designing their backyard pool, homeowners are always looking that “ah-ha moment” when they discover the perfect feature that completes their dream pool. If this is you, we suggest you have a “baja moment”. Baja Shelves, have long been associated with luxury resort pools and high-end community pools as areas that provide a safe and relaxing environment. Over the past 5-10 years they have become extremely popular in residential pool designs and is definitely a feature to consider in your pool design.

What is a Baja Shelf?

A baja shelf, also known as a tanning ledge, sun shelf, or shallow water shelf, is a flat, shallow area typically located at one end of the pool, designed to provide a space where people can relax and sunbathe in shallow water.

The baja shelf is usually around 6 to 18 inches (15 to 45 cm) deep, allowing individuals to partially submerge themselves in the water while lounging or sitting. It provides a convenient spot to place chairs, sun loungers, or even inflatable pool floats. The shallow water on the baja shelf is particularly popular among children, as they can play or splash around in a safer, more accessible area.

Baja shelves are often constructed with non-slip materials to ensure safety and may feature built-in umbrella sleeves or jets for added comfort. They have become a desirable addition to many pool designs, as they offer a relaxing and refreshing way to enjoy the water while remaining comfortably supported.

Advantages of a Baja Shelf

The baja shelf in a swimming pool offers several advantages:

  • Relaxation and Comfort: A baja shelf provides a comfortable space to relax and enjoy the water without fully immersing yourself. It allows you to partially submerge your body and stay cool while basking in the sun or reading a book.
  • Safety for Non-Swimmers: The shallow depth of the baja shelf makes it a safe area for non-swimmers, especially children or individuals who may not be confident in deeper water. They can enjoy the pool experience while being in a controlled and easily accessible area.
  • Sunbathing: Baja shelves are designed for sunbathing, providing a shallow water area where you can soak up the sun. You can comfortably lie down on a lounger or float while staying cool in the water.
  • Interaction and Play: The baja shelf is an excellent space for socializing and interacting with others in the pool. It allows people to sit or stand in close proximity, making conversations and playing games more convenient.
  • Versatility: Baja shelves are versatile and can be used for various purposes. In addition to sunbathing, they can be utilized as a children’s play area, a platform for water toys, or a place to sit and relax while watching others swim.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Baja shelves add an attractive and visually appealing element to the pool design. They can be customized with different materials, colors, and finishes to complement the overall aesthetics of the pool.
  • Cooling Effect: The shallow water on the baja shelf helps to keep you cool during hot summer days. You can enjoy the refreshing sensation of being in the water without having to fully submerge yourself.
  • Overall, the baja shelf enhances the pool experience by providing a safe, comfortable, and versatile area for relaxation, socializing, and enjoying the sun.

Baja Shelf Features

  • Baja shelves can incorporate additional features to enhance the user experience. These can include built-in umbrella sleeves or holders to provide shade, jets or bubblers for a soothing water feature, or even lighting elements for a dramatic effect at night.
  • Integration with Steps or Seating: Baja shelves can be seamlessly integrated with pool steps or seating areas. This allows for easy access from the shallow area to deeper parts of the pool and provides a cohesive design.
  • Customization: Baja shelves can be customized based on individual preferences and requirements. Whether you want a specific color scheme, shape, or special features, working with a professional pool designer or contractor can help you create a unique baja shelf design that suits your style and needs.
